Last day in Cuba today, but so pleased we booked time back here in Havana at the end. We both absolutely love Havana and know we will return – we’ve loved Cuba, but Havana is really special. So Jane and David, Fran and Paul, you MUST book soon – we know of all our friends, you will fall in love with Cuba as we have, so even if you have to sell the kids to do it, do it, do it soon. As we’d had a very late night (the cabaret doesn’t start till 10 and that’s our bedtime at home!) we slept in late and I woke up with a bit of a rum hangover (the picture taken at the end of last night shows us a bit worse for wear). Soon recovered though and went for another long walk around this fantastic city. Went back to Plaza Vieja (Old Square, although they’re all old) and delivered the last of Sid’s crayons and pencils to the school in the square. The kids were doing PE, races up and down the square which doubles as their school playground.
Farewell Havana

Then we walked the length of the Malecon again, along the seafront back to the Hotel Nacional to use their pool for a couple of hours as it was so hot – our lovely hotel Palacio O’Farrill
is brilliantly placed but the ‘old city’ hotels don’t have pools. To round it off we got a coco-taxi
(like a coconut motor bike) back to our hotel (we’d wanted to ride one but hadn’t had a chance before). It was a toss up between the pink car
which doubles as a taxi or the coco-taxi and the coco-taxi won. A little bit of last minute shopping and now Sid has gone for a run (yes, in this heat!) and I’m going to post this before we re-pack (again) before an early dinner as we have a 5.30 am start. The flight to Mexico is only one hour, but it’s a two-hour check in.
