Flying the flag for Cuba

Just one last funny story from Cuba – there’ll be loads more on our return, so watch out! There is an Office of American Interests in Havana (no Embassy or Consultate, obviously) and yes, that does seem a bit strange, as does Guantanamo, but still. On the outside of this office building, the Americans used to put out propaganda slogans, telling the Cubans how wonderful Miami was and the US government is, in massive, massive huge letters all down the side of the building. Fidel’s answer. Not to put out anti-American slogans, although you do see those around, but overnight, to put up 42 huge flag poles and fly black flags with the Cuban star on them, obliterating the building from view. The Americans gave up with their slogans.
