Monday 19th February
Good morning. It’s 8.30 am here and Carole’s taken the kids to school on her way to work, as they both needed early starts for various sporting activities before school and like most kids on Monday morning, couldn’t get up.
It’s a beautifully sunny, hot morning and Sid’s doing some ironing on the deck while I write this. Dan will return at 10.30am from work and then Sid and I will nip off in his car somewhere, whilst he sleeps.
Yesterday was a nice, family ‘weekend at home’ day – the first we’ve had as we’ve been away the past two weekends. Chef Carole cooked a fantastic Sunday dinner and while that was in the oven, we went for a long walk along the beach. Well, Carole and I did – the boys played beach cricket and football.
It was also a ‘recovery’ day from ‘theme park Saturday’. Sid and I both HATE theme park rides and thought those days were over when Ian and Ben started to take themselves off to Alton Towers and Drayton Manor with their friends. Not so. A few days ago, we (foolishly) had said to the boys that they could choose which of the Gold Coast’s three theme parks to take us to – Seaworld (would have been nice), Wild Water World (would have been OK) or Dreamworld. Of course they chose Dreamworld and we had to keep the bargain, it was their choice. Sid and I were both fine on the children’s train which takes you round the park, the Vintage Cars and even the Log Flume and the Thunder River Rapids Ride, but less so on the Runaway Reptar Roller Coaster (which I did with my eyes closed for the entire time). We passed on The Claw (see photo),
Cyclone and the Tower of Terror – though Carole and Dan both had a go with the little Platt-lets.
I hope we’ll be too old when it’s Oscar’s time!
